I know, I know. Your thinking that there are already plenty of gaming blogs out there. So what are we doing to grab your attention? Hopefully the same thing as the other guys. Display a passion for the hobby of gaming. A hobby that not only encourages but uses imagination as its lifeblood. There is nothing better than cracking open a new book or game and letting your mind wander through the halls of imagination.
It's this reason that has kept me coming back to the hobby for more than 13 years. I hope to use this space as a chance to share stories of the games we read and play.
So why the name Bored and Sorcery?
First, its a play off my favorite fantasy sub-genre Sword & Sorcery. There. Guilty as charged. But then I started to think on why it might be appropriate and I liked it more and more.
But Wait! Isn't boredom a bad thing? Boredom is certainly seen that way. But it is also the vessel in which people reach out and discover new activities and hobbies. At least it has worked that way for me. I remember being in junior high and being flat out bored of the standard video games and other activities my peers were engaged in. That boredom led me to take a chance and make new friends. Those friends were brave adventurers and they had me try a game called Dungeons & Dragons.
The result has been years delving into countless dungeons, running from things lurking in the shadows of some long derelict space station, swinging from chandeliers, spouting one-liners while doing things that would make every 80's action flick feel out classed, running for our lives from things-that-should-not-be, howling at the moon like werewolves (I'm sure the neighbors loved that one), cracking open every board game we could get our hands, painting miniatures and waging wars all across the galaxy, underhive and most of Western Imoren. We even saved a princess or two.
It's quite simple when you think about it. When children are bored they usually crack out a game. There is real magic there. A magic that comes from getting together with old buddies or making new friends. A magic that is born in the imagination that these games tap into. But most of all, a magic that takes shape in the ability to have a few laughs.
What we hope to accomplish here is simple. Share our love of gaming with others. Offer reviews and opinions on games, new and old. Offer advice on how to enrich the experience of gaming -- whether it be pen and paper, tabletop wargaming or the latest and greatest video games.
So we welcome you, dear reader Enjoy your stay.
